Description

Cabin Pressure

The cabin pressure is the air pressure in the aircraft. During a flight, this air pressure is constantly changing to create some balance between internal and external pressure. The cabin pressure is lowered during ascent and increased during descent. While cruising the pressure is constantly a bit lower than at sea level. This change in pressure is generally tolerated by most people. Patients suffering from heart or pulmonary diseases may however already develop discomfort at low altitude (from about 5500 m). It is therefore advisable that such travelers discuss this matter with their physician.

In case of more severe complaints, the air carrier should also be informed, in particular, if oxygen must be taken by the passenger or provided by the carrier. Air carriers usually require advance notification of health complaints and requests for assistance within 7-14 days before travel. Pay attention to the prices of the assistance provided by the air carrier!

Your right according to the European Commission: no passenger may be denied boarding because of limited mobility, unless the aircraft is too small and/or there are safety concerns!
