I started my journey in Luxembourg where I took a plane late in the afternoon for Lisboa where I planned to stay for 4 days with my friends.
We arrived late at night and just had the time to grab a bite before going to sleep in our hostel.
On our first morning, we had the pleasure of waking up to a beautiful view of the "Ponte de 25 Abril suspension bridge" right over the Tagus river (see pic 7). We started by walking around in the streets of the city center and visiting old churches and monuments of the capital. After walking for hours, we decided to stop at a café with an amazing point of view (see pic 1). Later that night we went to a local bar so we could hear some local music called "fado".
On the second day, we decided to walk for about 2 hours along the Tagus river until we made it to the "Torre de Belem"(see pic 6). We then decided to have some tapas under the burning sun of Lisbon. Later on, we visited an amazing and impressive monument called the "Jenominos monastery" or "Hieronomites monastery" (see pic 2). On that night, we signed up for a "pub crawl" which was apparently pretty famous in the city. We payed 15 Euros to be part of a group with a guide and going around the bars of Lisbon. It was an amazing night where we met a lot of people, went to 3 different bars where we had all sorts of discounts or even free drinks and ended the night at the " K urban beach club" which is considered to be one the bests of the capital.
On our third day, we took a day off and decided to take the train to go to the beach. After sleeping off our last night out, we went to take a surf lesson of 2 hours for only 30 Euros. To finish the night, we went to a small local restaurant where we enjoyed a nice meal.
For our last day we decided to stay in the city and went visiting the "convent of our lady of mount Carmel" (see pic 4). We then spent the rest of the day doing some souvenir shopping so we could bring back as many memories as possible. And on that note ended our trip to Lisbon in the spring on 2019.
My journey then continued to Seville, Andaloucia. I stayed there for 4 days and had the opportunity to travel to villages in the region.
On my first day I visited the amazing historical city center of Seville. The most impressive monument was the "Catedral de Sevilla" (see pics 6 and 10). I walked along the "guadalquivir", the river that runs through Seville, until I could find a local restaurant and have some tapas. Later on, I went to the "plaza de Espana" which is probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen with the lake and the garden that surrounds it (see pic 8).
I spent the next day at "Isla Magica" (see pic 5) which is a huge theme and water park in Seville. I had a great time going on all the rides and attractions I could find. Most of them were water-related, which was really appreciated considering how hot it was.
On my third day I went to Cordobà. I took about 2 hours with the car to get there from Seville. It´s a beautiful city with a lot of hisorical heritage. I started by visiting the "Mezquita" which is an amanzing monument that first used to be a cathedral and then was partly turned into a mosque (see pic 3). After that, I went to the "alcazar of Cordoba". Its a unique place sourrounded by breathtaking gardens (see pic 1).
On my last day, I went to another village of Andaloucia called "El Rocio" (see pics 4 and 9). It´s a beautiful place that is dedicated to horses. They were horse riding lessons offered all around the city. But the most impressive thing was the cathedral "virgin of El Rocio" (see pic 2).
My journey continued to Croatia, more precisely, in Split. It was probalby the most rewarding destination I have ever been yet. If you are traveling to Croatia, I would recommend booking your activites in advance online. The official currency there are "Kunas" so you wouldn't have to pay the exchange rate fees.
I arrived late at the airport and decided to book an Airbnb in Trogir, which is small town that lies on an island near Split.
On my first day,I visited the center and the harbour of Trogir (see pic 7). I took that opportunity to learn more about the historical background of Dalmatia. I walked around for hours, going in the churches and museums I could find. Around 4 pm I took a bus that took me to Split where my exausting, yet amazing week, would truly begin. After I dropped off my stuff at a hostel I had found in the city center, I went for a walk in the huge park of "Marjan". It took a lot of effort to walk up to the hill of this park, but once up there, there was this amazing view of Split, the sea and all those little islands. After that, I went back to the center, which is literally in what used to be Diocletian's palace.
On the next day, I woke up pretty early to walk to the archaeological museum of Split. Sadly, it was a bit disappointing. Since they were renovating, a part of the collection was missing, and therefore, a piece of history. I then continued my walk up to the "Galerija Mestrovic" (see pic 10). It was a beautiful building with a view on the sea and an amazing art collection. After that, I decided to rest and went to the beach to take a nap before heading back to the city and have dinner.
On the third day, I booked for 50 Euros a boat trip. The price included the day on the boat, the lunch meal and unlimited drinks (softs and wine). The rendez-vous was at 10 am at the port. I boarded to what was going to be an amazing day. It started with a 2 hour drive to a nearby island with cristal clear water (see pic 7). We stayed there for about an hour, before we went to another island, where we had lunch. I took the fish meal (there was also chicken or vegetarian) which was incredible. Finally we went to "blue lagoon". It was a truly beatiful place. The boat was equiped with a slide from the upper story and snorkeling equipment. The boat brought us back to Split around 6 pm, just in time to get ready for dinner.
On the fourth day, I planned on going to the Krka National Park. A bus picked us up in Split and we drove for about an hour to the park. Once there, we followed the guide to a boat, which lead us to the waterfalls (see pics 3 and 4). It was a beautiful experience, sadly the place was really crowded. I spent the day swimming under the waterfalls and trekking around them before heading back to Split. On that night, there was an open air concert with small local bands which was very fun.
On the last day, I went to the ancient city of Salona. It used to be the capital of Dalmatia in Roman times, with only ruins left to see. The bus then took me to the fortress of Klis (see pic 1). It lies on the very top of a hill near Split, which allowed me to see a beautiful panorama.
My journey
endend in Athens, Greece. If you are an europpean student traveling to Athens, do not forget to take your student ID with you. If you have it, you'll have a discount for most museums. I took another plane that arrived in the late
morning. I first went to the hostel I had booked in the city center to take a
shower and leave my stuff. I then started to walk around the city and was
surprised by how fast I could go from a rich neighborhood to a street where
every single shop was closed. After I had lunch, I walked through the city and
up the hill until I reached the acropolis and the Parthenon (see pic 6). From
there, I had the most beautful view over the city (see pic 7). I then walked around
"plakka" which is a beautiful neighborhood filled with small souvenir
shops and cafes.
On the next morning I decided to visit the ruins of the city center I started with the arch of Hadrian (see pic 3) and the library of Hadrian. I then went to the ancient Agora (see pic 2) which was a huge site with a lot of history. At nightfall, i went to to national observatory of Athens. After a full tour of the place with an amazing guide, we went outside to look at the stars and Athens by night with the guide telling us stories about the city's history.
On my third day, I took the metro to go to the port of Piraeus (see pic 8). I stayed there all day walking around the streets and on the beach.
On my last day, I took the bus to go outside the city to Vouliagmeni. It's a beautiful lake that is about 1 hour away from Athens with public transport. It was truly a breathtaking spot (see pics 4 and 5). Even though, it was spring and still pretty cold, I decided to go for a swim in the lake and it was an amazing experience. Inside the water were those little fish that eat the dead skin of your foot, which was pretty funny.
Athens was propably the most fascinating city I have visited. At the end of this trip I had learned so much, I was impressed.
