In Milan we had unfortunately only little time and therefore we were not stressed to see everything. We just let ourselves drift a bit.
A good starting point is certainly the famous Milan Cathedral. Right next to it you will find the luxury passage "Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II". It is definitely worth to have a look inside, even if you don't want to buy anything. The versatile 19th century building is very impressive, with a gigantic glass dome over the octagon, wall and floor mosaics and a beautiful triumphal arch in the direction of the cathedral.
TIP: It is better to eat a little further away from the cathedral, as the prices in the immediate vicinity are outrageously high.
From the cathedral we took the tram no. 3 and went to the stop "Carrobbio" to stroll a little in the many small boutiques. In direction to "Colonne di San. Lorenzo" we strolled along the streets.
In the evening we went for a walk in the quarter "Navigli". We got off the tram at "Porta Ticinese" and just walked along the river. There it is beautiful in the evening and there are many nice and cheap restaurants and bars on both sides.
Next stop is the beautiful and colourful bays of Cinque Terre.
As the area is very expensive, we decided to take an Airbnb in La Spezia. From there, one can buy a three day ticket at the train station with which one can go from place to place as one likes.
- Riomaggiore: bathing place
- Manarola: Viewpoint, bay for swimming (if you walk a little further from the viewpoint), many small cafes, bars and restaurants
- Corniglia: not too spectacular
- Vernazza: seemed a bay for swimming, rather small place
- Monterosso al Mare: beach (very crowded), sweet little streets
By train we went on to Pisa.
Of course, there are the classic sights to see there, like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Cavalieri Square, the Santa Maria della Spina Church, etc., but for that you don't need more than half a day.
So we rented a scooter (at "The Vespa Rent - Toscana In Tour Pisa") and made excursions to the beach.
The first day we drove towards Rosignano Solvey and at the end of the day we went to the Spiagge Branche to see the white bleached beach. (ATTENTION: it is strongly discouraged to really go into the water at this point! The beach has only turned white because of mercury that has been released into the sea from a nearby factory via sewage).
But I found the beach near Calambrone much nicer. There we rented sun beds at Salinas Beach House and just relaxed. Nearby there is a supermarket to buy snacks and drinks, or you can eat in the restaurant of Salinas Beach House.
Accommodation: AwesHome Hanging Gardens
Food: La Ghiotteria (small restaurant with very cheap, incredibly delicious food, huge portions - be there early or plan a waiting time)
If you have a little more time, you can easily add a stopover in Florence.
However, we have decided on Bologna. Bologna is a beautiful place where you can drift around.
Accommodation: Airbnb MJ Galliera (very clean, modern and in a good location)
